Francisco Corzas Chávez

Francisco Corzas was born in Mexico City in 1936. Francisco Corzas began his studies at the age of fourteen. The artist attended La Esmeralda where he was instructed by some of the greatest artists of the Mexican School such as María Izquierdo, Juan Soriano, Carlos Orozco Romero and Agustín Lazo. In 1955 Corzas moved to Italy, and although faced with terrible economic adversity, was able to survive by exchanging his drawings for food. After gaining success by winning the silver medal at the Via Margutta International Art Fair in 1960, Corzas returned triumphantly to Mexico. Galería Antonio Souza held his first exhibition upon his return from Europe. Later, notable galleries such as Juan Martín and Misrachi held individual exhibitions of his work, which received very favorable reviews. Unfortunately, Corzas’s health was very frail and his career met an untimely end when he succumbed to pneumonia in 1983.
