Fernando de Szyszlo

Fernando de Szyszlo was born in Lima, Peru in 1925. De Szyszlo first studied architecture and painting with Austrian-born painter Adolfo Winternitz. He later moved to Paris and Florence before returning to Lima in 1955. De Szyszlo lectured at Cornell University in 1962 and became a visiting lecturer at Yale University in 1965. His interest in pre-Hispanic themes, especially Quéchua poetry, has inspired the themes and titles of his highly acclaimed abstract paintings.
