Belkis Ayón Myth and Disobedience

Belkis Ayón (Havana, 1967–1999) was a leading Cuban artist and printmaker Belkis whose work transformed the field of contem- porary graphic art. Through seven works from the Malba–Costantini Collection, this exhibition unfolds the artist’s exceptional use of collagraphy. This technique, based on printing matrices constructed as collages of materials mounted on boards—typically cardboard— enabled Ayón to develop a visual language of remarkable tonal and textural richness.
